Message always take the path of least resistance. As the pressure increases, the flow will spread out proportional to the increase to maintain paths of least resistance. It is fairly clear that the ICs act as heatsinks (see my response to LitlElvis). Larger ICs that are not so wide as to cause friction losses along the tubes will allow more heatsinking with a lower pressure drop.
